Help animals

The activities of SUST

All over the world, countless animals in overcrowded shelters live sadly or struggle for their survival in wild colonies. Day after day, even today, animals that have become inconvenient are still abandoned, deported or mistakenly kept for lack of better knowledge. The Susy Utzinger Animal Welfare Foundation contributes with effective means to the fact that animal suffering can be reduced or even prevented sustainably.

This animal welfare work is based on four pillars:

1. Competence Centre Animal Shelter: Animal shelters become high-quality transition stations for homeless animals, where animals are kept and promoted in a way that is appropriate for their species and finally transferred to good new places.

2. Neutering campaigns: Braking the animal misery

3. Education and training of specialists: Specialists are given the opportunity to optimise their knowledge and improve animal welfare.

4. Education of the population: love of animals with heart and mind

These four elements form the important basis for sustainable animal welfare projects.

Those animals that are not yet able to benefit from the effects of this reconstruction work and have been born into a world where they are not wanted need the emergency aid of SUST.

++ Campaign-Report November 2022 of our spay and neuter campaigns in Romania++

637 free spays performed in Romania in November

Total of Spay and Neuter surgeries in November: 637!

The team:

Dr. Irina Corbu-Rudnic, Dr. Mircea Stefanache, Dr. Ovidiu Rosu, Dr. Ioana Ene, Dr. Mihai Vancea, Dr. Nicoleta Chirica, Dr. Andreea Gontoiu und Dr. Sabina Proca
Vet-students: Delia Lungu, Mada Lixandru, Anca Cruceru und Alina Murgu
Vet-Assistents: George Anghel, Oana Ungureanu, Alex Constantin
and a huge team of volunteers.

Location: Cornu de Jos, Kreis Prahova
Period: 28-29.11.2022
Total number of spays: 153

Local contact: Iulia Burloiu, Asociatia Arca lui Norocel

When the team was near our spay location, they were welcomed by one of the previously spayed dogs, proudly displaying her ear tag, the sign of a job well done and in which we take great pride. She lives around a gas station, and is a well-known landmark in the community.

🙂
Everyone knows and likes her, and she is our ambassador for the spay project, everyone commenting how good it is that she’s no longer making more puppies.

We are truly grateful to have been able to return to Cornu de Jos and see such impressive results in the actual lives of the animals and the community, results which were only possible because you cared and supported us so we could make a difference! Thank you, #teamSUST!

Location: Ciolpani und Lipia, Ilfov county
Period: 14-15/11 and 16-17/11/2022
Total number of spays: 132 animals (Ciolpani) and 154 animals (Lipia), total of 286 animals

Local contact: CMVI Lilian Banu and repectively Mrs. Dana Mares, Asociatia Armonie cu Natura

Despite Mrs. Mares’ considerable efforts in organizing the campaign so every patient can make it safely to us in terms of transport and surgical appointment times, we still had a patient delivered with a horse and carriage, and cats in cardboard crates, as you can see.

This is why the transport crates are so important, to ensure the safety of our patients throughout the spaying process, avoiding escaping animals that are exposed to huge risks due to being brought to unfamiliar locations with road traffic. The animals were promptly taken in by our team to be transferred to safer cages.

Location: Mănești, Prahova county
Period: 10-11.11.2022
Total number of spays: 198

Local contact: lulia Zamfirescu, Asociatia Arca lui Norocel

As pointed out in previous campaign reports, we had to rally together with Arca lui Norocel to have sufficient crates and transporters at the ready because many people don’t bring their animals in safely due to the lack of an appropriate pet carrier, some bringing them in bags or sacks or even cardboard boxes. We unfortunately need to replenish our stock as soon as we can, as we cannot run the risk of escaping animals that can get lost or run over by cars.

Overall, this was an extremely successful campaign where we were able to help 163 females, which is a huge benefit to the community, and - unlike many of the more “urban” campaigns, we focused on dogs, helping 101 of them in total. All of this would not have been possible without your kind support, and while we are fully aware of how difficult and arduous the fundraising effort is to help make these events happen, we can only hope and pray that we are able to continue this work moving forward, for as many animals as we possibly can. We are tremendously grateful and proud to be #teamsust!
