Help animals

The activities of SUST

All over the world, countless animals in overcrowded shelters live sadly or struggle for their survival in wild colonies. Day after day, even today, animals that have become inconvenient are still abandoned, deported or mistakenly kept for lack of better knowledge. The Susy Utzinger Animal Welfare Foundation contributes with effective means to the fact that animal suffering can be reduced or even prevented sustainably.

This animal welfare work is based on four pillars:

1. Competence Centre Animal Shelter: Animal shelters become high-quality transition stations for homeless animals, where animals are kept and promoted in a way that is appropriate for their species and finally transferred to good new places.

2. Neutering campaigns: Braking the animal misery

3. Education and training of specialists: Specialists are given the opportunity to optimise their knowledge and improve animal welfare.

4. Education of the population: love of animals with heart and mind

These four elements form the important basis for sustainable animal welfare projects.

Those animals that are not yet able to benefit from the effects of this reconstruction work and have been born into a world where they are not wanted need the emergency aid of SUST.

Animal shelter support of the Susy Utzinger Animal Welfare Foundation

How we help shelter animals

The animal shelter support of the Susy Utzinger Animal Welfare Foundation helps where animal shelters reach their limits: It is part of the daily work of the SUST experts to organize and carry out missions in animal shelters in Switzerland and other countries.

In order to optimise an animal shelter and get it on the road to professional animal welfare, years of cooperation and support are usually necessary. This support can have very different faces: Sometimes the experts of the Susy Utzinger Animal Welfare Foundation organise a whole animal shelter conversion, they give first aid to animals, train specialists and carry out castration and relief actions.

SUSTAINABLE: An animal protection project should not only help here and now, it must also have an effect in the future. For example, in SUST projects in Romania, not only is the situation of shelter and street dogs improved by means of shelter reorganisation, construction measures, food donations and dog kennels, but also castration projects are supported and organised and political negotiations are conducted. This is the only way to improve the situation of the street animals in the long term and to prevent animal suffering in the future.

ACTIVE: Every day we are confronted with animal welfare problems in the media. Many animal lovers are sad or angry when they see pictures and reports of cruelty to animals and animal suffering. Unfortunately, emotions alone are of little help to the affected creature. They need active help. They get this help through the motivated teams of volunteers of the SUST, who are actively working at home and abroad. A large material store with animal utensils and food helps out with bottlenecks in animal shelters and reception centres. The SUST also organises further training courses in which not only theory is taught but also active training is offered.

EFFECTIVE: Animal protection work should not be a drop in the ocean - animal protection must be effective. The many positive feedbacks from animal lovers and animal protection projects, which SUST has supported in the past and the visible successes in the regularly supervised projects confirm the success
