In addition to dogs and cats, exotic patients often end up in the SUST animal orphan hospital in Hurghada. This falcon was confiscated by the Department of Environment and Biodiversity together with four fellow sufferers. Their former owners had sewed their eyes shut to tame them for hunting. While four birds survived this procedure physically more or less unscathed and were able to fly into freedom with their eyes open, the eye of one of them was so badly injured by suturing that it blinded. Unfortunately, the experienced veterinary team of the SUST animal orphan hospital could not help him any more. All the stress and injuries were more than the small body could handle.
