Recently, another large group of animals arrived at the SUST Orphan Animal Hospital in Peru: monkeys, turtles, a sloth, several parrot birds. All of them were brought to the animal sanctuary by the Ministry of Flora and Fauna Peru. They were previously rescued from a large illegal trade in poached rainforest animals.
It was particularly fortunate this time that many of the animals had escaped mostly unharmed and could be released after a brief examination at the hospital! So was this female anteater. Since dwarf anteaters are nocturnal, the little one was taken deep into the forest by the Esperanza Verde team that same evening and set down on a branch. Always a magical moment: a living creature comes back to where it belonged from the beginning. And this time was no exception: the little anteater sat down on the branch and straightened her upper body, as if to say goodbye once again. Then she disappeared into the darkness. Wonderful!
