After a difficult birth, this calf could not get up to drink even after a long recovery period. The "Grosstierrettungsdienst GTRD" (large animal rescue service) CH/FL that was dispatched used one of its special recovery harnesses to put the animal on its hooves. Unfortunately, the little creature was unable to stand on its feet despite help, so it was transferred to the Zurich Animal Hospital for further evaluation.
While most horse emergencies are covered by insurance or the private funding of their owners, the costs incurred in the rescue of so-called farm animals often present the farmers concerned with financial problems. To ensure that these important operations are nevertheless carried out, SUST, together with the GTRD, runs the campaign "Farm animals also deserve professional rescue" and for years SUST has financed the uncovered costs of rescues of so-called "farm animals".
