Help animals

Animal Welfare Volunteers

The Susy Utzinger Animal Welfare Foundation is active all the time: with professional planning and exciting work on site, it supports and promotes animal shelters at home and abroad. This animal welfare work is mainly made possible by donations and legacies. An elementary and indispensable part is also the free cooperation of experts.

The SUST's teams have a big heart for animals, an enormous amount of expertise and experience in the field of animal welfare and an unlimited willingness to work: animal suffering, dirt, working under extreme conditions and possibly also injuries are part of the everyday life of such missions.

Are you interested in volunteering at SUST?

Inexperienced helpers accompany us on working days in Switzerland. During these working days (on weekends, 1-2 days in each case) these volunteers mainly do work for which the shelter staff cannot find time apart from the day-to-day business. Often, this work involves cleaning, conversion or maintenance work. The direct work on the animal is left to the experts present. These working days provide a good opportunity to get to know each other and the way SUST works.

If the volunteers are interested, qualified and committed, there is also the possibility to participate in animal welfare missions abroad. This approach has proven its worth so far, because it is of great importance to us to get the best out of the ever tight schedule in our foreign missions, and this is only possible if a team harmonizes perfectly and has the necessary expertise.

If you are interested, please send us an e-mail or call us: 052 202 69 69 69.

Animals have always been part of my life and play a central role in it. Every animal deserves our respect and dignity. This is the responsibility of each individual - but unfortunately, it is not lived by every individual. That is why we need organisations such as the SUST, whose enormous, untiring commitment I admire. I also want to make my contribution to save the animals from suffering and give them joy.

"I found my way to animal welfare through my first dog, Otis. I was lucky enough to get to know a lot of great people in and around animal welfare relatively quickly and identified more and more with animal welfare. As money was rather tight at our place, I tried to use my time and commitment to help where help was and is needed and welcome. In March 2017, I was able to take a look behind the scenes of a neutering campaign in Spain and lend a helping hand. This opened a whole new door and showed me a fascinating new world, which I would like to explore further with great interest. I'm delighted to be part of a great team and take every opportunity to keep learning."

If you help animals, you will get back more than you can ever expect from a human being. I came upon the dog in a training course. I was overwhelmed to see what they were capable of. What I like about SUST is that I am impressed by its professionalism and commitment. The set goals are achieved.

Animals are a part of my life and mean everything to me. They give us so much, that's why it is such a big affair for me to support them. It is nice to be able to help, feel and see what we can contribute with our own efforts for a better world for animals in need of urgent help. Every assignment gives new energy when we end up in grateful and happy eyes of animals and also the people who looked after and saved them, as well as new courage, motivation and strength for the next assignment and many new projects - we are a great team which pursues the same goal -> "everything for the benefit of the animal". We can achieve a lot with our combined efforts and with every effort we learn a lot of new things. I am very grateful and proud to be part of the SUST team. "SUST tackles the roots" is its motto and the foundation lives up to it. With the important 4 pillars, animal shelter support, castration actions, education and further education of the population, the foundation is super-organized and achieves marvellous and sustainable achievements in Switzerland and abroad in its many years of experience, as one can or may witness publicly or participate in the self participation.

SUST is a professionally managed, transparent organization that works objectively and efficiently. The core activities of emergency aid, shelter support, neutering, training of professionals and public information have been chosen correctly. Very important: Although financed by donations, it doesn't play one's heart strings. I appreciate the fact that I am not only able to participate financially, but also with my work and assistance. Thanks to the many opportunities for further training, I am able to expand my specialist knowledge on an ongoing basis.

I found my way to SUST as a volunteer helper through the material collection and sorting days. I registered spontaneously and have been thrilled ever since. It's a great team and I've been welcomed so warmly, even though I can only offer "little help": helping in the warehouse, various administrative tasks, small pick-up and delivery services, baking for training events. What I am convinced about SUST are the people behind it, and that little things are also appreciated. Because even with small things you can move forward....

I support the SUST because my work can be used on site, with the animal shelter managers/staff, at home and abroad. As a volunteer, I also get the opportunity to be trained by professionals in animal welfare and veterinary medicine in seminars. The SUST convinced me because wild animals are also part of their portfolio, and we actively support the amphibian migration at our local pond. We are allowed to actively live sustainable animal welfare.

Animals - whether dog or cat - are the real owners of this world that man has stolen from them, living creatures = animals or humans, no one is less valuable and therefore man has no right to do with everything he wants to do! But man remains man and animal remains animal - so I am proud to be able to help the weaker ones and hope that it will finally get better with the animal suffering and that man will be able to reason a little bit. SUST has my highest respect in what it does and I am proud to be able to help make the animals at least a little bit better.

I don't just want to donate, I also want to actively do something for animal welfare. I love animals - all of them! Every animal has a right to a good life. The Susy Utzinger Foundation not only combats symptoms, but also tackles the causes. I think that makes a lot of sense. The assignments are varied, you spend a good time with like-minded people, learn new things and at the end of the day you go home with a good feeling and know: I'll be back.

Through a good friend of mine, I became aware of the SUST. Since I'm not the type to donate money, I wanted to help. In the missions the animals are in the center of attention, something is achieved together and you get to meet great new people who stand up for the same thing. Since there are no assignments in the winter months, I like to attend the advanced training courses, the contents of which are very instructive.

My mother taught me the love and respect of animals from an early age, and for years I have had several guinea pigs who taught me responsibility for animals, and now there are three cats that make my life more colourful. I love animals very much and was always looking for an animal protection association, where I can bring my joy and time. With SUST I have found the right thing. The missions about SUST are a matter of the heart, it fills me with happiness and pride, if I can help where help is needed. I particularly like SUST: the organisation, Susy and her team and their tireless efforts for the benefit of the animal.

It is important to me to do something useful in my spare time. In animal shelters there is always a lot of work and many worries. After a mission for SUST I have the feeling that I have done something useful to relieve the shelter people and benefit the animals. I am happy to support the people who use all their time and energy to offer the animals a good and loving home. The sowings are always very well organized. The fun factor is also included. We are always a great team, we work a lot, but we laugh a lot. Every time I play, I learn something new. In addition, I can also benefit regularly from the continuing education offered by Susy Utzinger. I am looking forward to many more missions, behind SUST I can stand fully behind SUST.
