Animal Shelter Support

How shelter animals are helped

During the time animals have to spend in an animal shelter, they are entitled to appropriate accommodation (if possible), veterinary care and professional care. Simple wishes, the fulfilment of which is often complex and expensive.
The reorganization work of the SUST supports many different animal shelters and animal welfare projects at home and abroad and contributes to the fulfilment of these factors. In this way, serious and independent animal welfare organisations can grow out of needy associations, which in the future can help countless animals to a species-appropriate accommodation and a new, good home. In order to optimize an animal shelter and to bring it on the way of the professional animal assistance, usually years of cooperation and company are necessary.
This support can have many different faces: sometimes the experts of the Susy Utzinger Animal Welfare Foundation organise a complete rebuilding of an animal shelter, they provide first aid for animals, train experts and carry out castration and aid campaigns.

In dialogue with the animal welfare activists concerned, the restructuring of animal shelters, advice on setting up and managing animal welfare projects and the further training of experts are addressed.
The area of the pillar "shelter support" includes
- Carrying out of work days in Swiss animal shelters
- Implementation of weeks in foreign animal shelters
- structural change/supplementation of animal shelter facilities
- Reorganization of animal shelter processes
- Coordination and financing of craftsmen's and construction work
- Supply of animal feed
- Delivery of animal shelter equipment (each year 80 - 100 tons of animal utensils leave the SUST warehouse)
- Supply of building materials
- Financing of feed and other material
- Provision of emergency and direct help
- Management of the SUST-material collection action
In many cases, SUST provides direct aid without any third party ever knowing about it. Emergency scenarios and plans are set up in no time at all, experts are dispatched and assistance operations are carried out - in emergencies, the organisation provides fast, unbureaucratic and discreet help. When shelters need help, the Susy Utzinger Animal Welfare Foundation is there for them.
The activities of the Susy Utzinger Animal Welfare Foundation are financed exclusively by donations and legacies (no public support).
With your donation you help to help shelter animals!

Material donations January - December 2017

The material collection campaign of the Susy Utzinger Animal Welfare Foundation remains a story of success.

Countless animal lovers and also companies and organisations from all over Switzerland supply this meaningful campaign with goods: Second-hand dog baskets, cat beds, leashes, collars, horse halters and blankets, bowls, transport boxes, towels, blankets, milk for kittens, but also pet food, treats and tools are delivered to our warehouse or handed in in person. This material is disinfected, sorted and passed on to animal welfare organisations in need, at home and abroad.geliefert oder direkt abgegeben. Dieses Material wird desinfiziert, sortiert und an bedürftige Tierschutzorganisationen im In- und Ausland weitergegeben.

In 2017, SUST was able to hand over animal material to various organisations in 221 material deliveries:

. 108 of these material donations went to organisations in Switzerland, 113 went abroad.
. The material was delivered in the form of:
. 275 fully packed paletts
. 77 carloads (passenger cars)
. 16 busloads
. 12 postal shippings

This is a total of 275 pallets full of animal utensils and animal nutrition (plus loose remainders) or over 73 tons of animal welfare material that could help animals in need.

Material deliveries of SUST
Animals get into distress daily - caused by humans, abroad as well as in Switzerland. The Susy Utzinger Animal Welfare Foundation has been working tirelessly for many years to reduce the suffering of animals. An important part of this work is the delivery of second-hand pet utensils.

Whether sleeping and transport baskets, bowls, towels, blankets, leashes, horse halters, but also food and many things more: Supposedly old utensils are still valuable items to many animal welfare organisations - items which they simply cannot afford. The material is collected by the foundation, sorted and delivered to animal shelters in need: Around 80 tons of these animal utensils leave our material warehouse every year.

Accompanying advice
However, not only these animal utensils change their owners, an infinite amount of expertise also gets exchanged. At each material handover, the conditions in the individual shelters and the status of the various projects are discussed anew. Together, new solutions are sought for and the best way to proceed is discussed.

Negotiations with authorities, ways out of disputes with neighbours, strategies for educating the population, plans for the construction and conversion of animal shelters, the improvement of appropriate animal husbandry, possibilities for lower care and treatment costs, the use of volunteers and lots more are sought for, discussed and fortunately also found in our foundation every day.
