Further information

The displaced persons who flee to Switzerland with their four-legged family members urgently need support. The Susy Utzinger Foundation for Animal Welfare has therefore created a coalition with the other animal welfare organizations Vier Pfoten, Stiftung für das Tier im Recht and the STVT (Swiss Veterinary Association for Animal Welfare) to provide optimal support for Ukrainian refugees and animals. The centerpiece is the digital help platform "SwissHelpForUkrainianPets.ch", where all important information and helpful support offers are centrally bundled.

Travelling with pets

Adjusted entry regime since 25.3. 2022!
Temporarily eased entry conditions for dogs and cats from Ukraine!
All information on the easing of rabies-related entry restrictions for pets from Ukraine is available via the link above or directly at:
https://stiko-vet.fli.de/de/aktuelles/einzelansicht/ukraine-krise/
Those travelling with their pets should continue to take care of the formalities in good time. It remains important that all animals are registered on arrival and that it is recorded whether they have been vaccinated against rabies.
Many people are fleeing Ukraine. Dogs and cats carried by their owners are allowed to enter Switzerland in exceptional cases, even if not all import requirements are met.

Ukrainian refugees with dogs or cats can find all current regulations and necessary forms on:
https://www.blv.admin.ch/blv/de/home/tiere/reisen-mit-heimtieren.html
In case of intended entry into Switzerland, owners must send these completed forms to petsukraine@blv.admin.ch.

Due to the high risk of disease, entry with poultry, hoofed and cloven-hoofed animals is still prohibited. These pet owners are requested to immediately contact the veterinary authorities at their current location.

What are pet animals?
The following animals are considered to be pet animals if they accompany their owner or a person authorised by the owner. In any case, they must have been taken over personally by the owner before entering the country.
- dogs, cats, ferrets
- domestic rabbits, rodents
- Birds, except chickens, turkeys, guinea fowl, ducks, geese, quails, pigeons, pheasants, partridges and ratites.
- Reptiles and amphibians
- ornamental fish and ornamental aquatic animals
- invertebrates, except bees and crustaceans.

Animals may not be sold or transferred to new owners. Dogs, cats, ferrets and birds are subject to special travel regulations due to the risk of introducing diseases.
