Education and Training

Education and training of specialists

The Susy Utzinger Animal Welfare Foundation's guiding principle is "Let's tackle the root of the problem". In addition to the optimisation of animal shelters and neutering campaigns in Switzerland and many other countries, the training and further education of veterinarians and animal protectionists is an important pillar of this philosophy: The SUST veterinary training courses are known for their quality and efficiency.

Animal welfare activists learn elementary principles for the handling and care of animals and for the management of animal shelters, veterinarians are brought up to date with the latest neutering techniques by internationally recognized colleagues and experience new and important things for the implementation of such campaigns.

This lays the foundation for further successful neutering campaigns to meet the quality standard demanded by SUST: This means that countless unwanted young animals do not have to be born and suffer in the first place. It has been proven that the overpopulation of dogs and cats can only be contained in the long term and animal-friendly by neutering campaigns.

This is what we have set ourselves the goal of our animal welfare work: the problem is being tackled at the root!

The pillar "basic and advanced training of specialists" includes

Large animal rescue service GTRD

April 2023

Imagine that you suspect no evil and unexpectedly fall into a dark, narrow pit filled with a cold, stinking liquid. You are scared, swimming for your life and each breath is harder than the previous one. There are people who don't want to invest money in rescuing you because you are "just" a farm animal and by rescuing you, they are somehow supporting your owners. But you need help NOW, as you are miserably in danger of drowning and suffocating. So luckily there is the Large Animal Rescue Service CH/FL, which has the appropriate equipment and trained professionals to gently rescue you from mortal danger. And luckily people who love animals, make it possible for the Susy Utzinger Foundation to finance such elaborate rescues.
"It is not in our power to stop people from consuming animal products. But when we have the opportunity to save animals from an agonizing death in their own feces, we do it."
While most equine emergencies are covered by insurance or private funding from their owners, the costs incurred in rescuing so-called farm animals often present financial problems for the farmers involved. To ensure that these important missions are nevertheless carried out, SUST, together with the GTRD, runs the campaign "Farm animals deserve professional rescue too" and for years SUST has financed the uncovered costs of rescues of so-called "farm animals".
