Live your love of animals at your vacation destination, even in Corona times!

August 2020

Not seldomly the vacation joy of animal lovers is spoiled by the sight of emaciated street animals.
The sad eyes of the presented animal attractions for the amusement of tourists touch many hearts and tempt to ill-considered "rescue actions". Everybody can contribute something to prevent the animal suffering, which in many places cannot be ignored, from becoming even worse by following simple rules:
1️⃣ Do not buy animals in markets or pet stores! With every purchase you stimulate the brutal business with young and wild animals and thus promote unspeakable animal suffering.
2️⃣ Do not participate in photo sessions with wild animals!  These living photo subjects were often robbed of their freedom and snatched from their parents much too early. They serve their owner only to generate income and are usually kept under catastrophic conditions.
3️⃣ Do not ride on animals if they are treated or kept badly!  Be critical and do without if you have doubts that the animals are well kept. Check the riding equipment and the general condition of the mounts. If you are not comfortable with the way the owners treat their animals, let them know! (Also applies to carriage rides!)
4️⃣ Do not feed street animals if they are not neutered!  Feeding promotes the increase of the street animals and increases thereby the animal suffering at this destination. Constantly growing populations are often killed with cruel methods after the vacation season. Castrated animals can be recognized by an ear tag (dogs) or the absence of the left ear tip (cats).
5️⃣ Do not take any animals home spontaneously!  It is extremely important that all requirements for the legal import of an animal are met. If the stamps in the vaccination card are missing, the animal may even be put to sleep when crossing the border! The essential rabies vaccination is only valid from 21 days after the injection! Many other factors like: Coupled animals, breed bans, titter regulations, Washington species protection agreement etc. are to be considered. You can find further legal regulations for animal import here:https://www.blv.admin.ch
