It will soon be winter and people are now taking care of their fall and winter wardrobe. Although the majority of the Swiss population clearly rejects the cruel husbandry, trapping and killing methods, the sale of fur products is booming.
After wearing fur was frowned upon, especially in the 1990s, sales of fur products have risen sharply again in Switzerland in recent years. Today, fur is produced cheaply in large masses and is almost only used to decorate textiles and fashion accessories. As a result, real fur is often not even noticed and the immense animal suffering behind it is not recognized. Although there has been a declaration obligation for fur products since 2014. However, consumers hardly pay attention to the corresponding information because the focus is on the chic appearance. Investigations have also shown that the animal cruelty fur products are often poorly declared.
"Fur is often produced in such a cruel and cheap way that it is even cheaper than fake fur. Many consumers don't know that they are wearing real fur - and they don't know that dog and cat fur is also used for their collars and accessories" explains Utzinger Susy, CEO of the Susy Utzinger Animal Welfare Foundation.
In order to make the public aware of the animal welfare problems associated with fur production, the Susy Utzinger Animal Welfare Foundation is running a campaign to this effect and is asking the public to draw attention to the suffering of fur-bearing animals by means of the free posters.
