Young birds of many bird species leave their nests and learn to fly as soon as their feathers are fully formed. Until they can do this properly and are independent, they continue to be fed on the ground by their parents. Often the supposedly helpless fluttering young birds are picked up by animal-loving passers-by.
But beware! Such well-intentioned actions are fatal for most of these animals: young birds have the best chance of survival if they are fed and cared for by the adults.
