Help animals

The activities of SUST

All over the world, countless animals in overcrowded shelters live sadly or struggle for their survival in wild colonies. Day after day, even today, animals that have become inconvenient are still abandoned, deported or mistakenly kept for lack of better knowledge. The Susy Utzinger Animal Welfare Foundation contributes with effective means to the fact that animal suffering can be reduced or even prevented sustainably.

This animal welfare work is based on four pillars:

1. Competence Centre Animal Shelter: Animal shelters become high-quality transition stations for homeless animals, where animals are kept and promoted in a way that is appropriate for their species and finally transferred to good new places.

2. Neutering campaigns: Braking the animal misery

3. Education and training of specialists: Specialists are given the opportunity to optimise their knowledge and improve animal welfare.

4. Education of the population: love of animals with heart and mind

These four elements form the important basis for sustainable animal welfare projects.

Those animals that are not yet able to benefit from the effects of this reconstruction work and have been born into a world where they are not wanted need the emergency aid of SUST.

Worse... unfortunately, it always can get worse!

April 2024

What the team from the SUST Orphan Animal Hospital Moreni experienced in March is told by OAH Manager Anda in her own words:

"Nothing, absolutely nothing in 20 years of animal welfare work prepares you for such a terrible case of animal abuse... A man who works as an emergency medical technician often visits a remote area near Moreni, a popular spot where people abandon dogs to distribute food. When he was there recently, suddenly this poor dog emerged from behind some trees. His sight shocked even the paramedic, who is used to a lot due to his job. We were also shocked and wondered what sad fate this dog had endured. Apart from the terrible condition of his right front leg, we found the thinnest creature we had ever seen under all the matted, dirty, and thorn-covered fur. He was so starved that he ate his deworming tablets as if they were beef. ...We had such great hope for a "Happy End" - unfortunately, he didn't make it, and we had to release him after a few days. But thanks to your help, we could try everything, shower him with affection in his final days, and ultimately spare him a longer ordeal. Thank you for the support that makes a big difference in the lives of orphaned, forgotten animals in Romania!"

Thank you for your ongoing commitment!
