Many marginalized persons lack the financial means for maintenance and care of their four-legged friend. With the SUST project "Social Work for Animals" the Susy Utzinger Foundation supports these pet owners and thus their animals.
Many impoverished people have an animal at their side as their only partner, but cannot or only insufficiently pay for its maintenance or even veterinary care. The sad consequence: the animals suffer in silence often for years, as untreated diseases, missing parasite treatments and also unwanted offspring due to lack of funds for castrations show. Such conditions affect the life of the animal and the animal owner and in the end there is often no other option than to relieve the animal from its suffering.
With the SUST social work for animals the Susy Utzinger Foundation supports these animal owners with free food donations, smaller veterinary supplies, coverage of castration costs and material supplies. In various Swiss cities, the SUST conducts veterinary consultations in institutions such as street work or integration projects. The range of SUST social work for animals is constantly being expanded throughout Switzerland.
