Bumblebee queens in spring - how can we help?

The first bumblebees in spring

If you see the first bumblebee these days, it is a young bumblebee queen looking for a suitable nesting site. However, since there can still be frost at this time and food is still scarce for the bumblebee queens (early bloomers), they can die of debilitation.

Help for the bumblebee queens

Each of the bumblebee queens carries the eggs that later hatch into worker bumblebees. So a bumblebee queen carries an entire colony of bumblebees - making it all the more important that we can help them survive the spring and find a location for their nest.

So if you find an exhausted bumblebee, here's how you can help the young queen:

1. carry her to a safe and warm place (for example, with the help of a paper).

2. dissolve 1/2 teaspoon of sugar in lukewarm water.

Place the sugar water next to the bumblebee so that it can drink from it.

This will give the bumblebee energy to fly away.

4. remember that the early bloomers are the only food for the bumblebees - do not pick bunches and enrich the food supply with seed bombs for the summer!
