Help animals

SUST-OAH Hurgada

The Egyptian tourist destination of Hurghada by the Red Sea is, among other things, known for its many street dogs and cats. Most of them lead a hard and often short life: Hunger, diseases, traffic accidents and many other dangers end the lives of many of them cruelly.

The SUST Orphan Animal Hospital Hurghada gives stray dogs and cats in need a second chance: sick and injured strays are treated here free of charge and professionally and are nursed back to health. Destitute pet owners also find help here for their animals in need. In addition to emergency cases, neutering is also carried out daily: In this way, the overpopulation of street cats in this Egyptian city is contained in an animal-friendly and sustainable way.
The Susy Utzinger Animal Welfare Foundation (SUST) organizes and finances the Orphan Animal Hospital and covers all costs. After their recovery/treatment, the animals are brought back to their familiar territory. If this is no longer possible, they are taken to an SUST partner animal shelter and, if possible, are placed in good homes.

In addition to the free spay and neuterings and treatment of strays, SUST also works intensively on other levels to find a sustainable solution to animal welfare problems on site: Education and training of professionals, optimization of animal shelters, information and education of the population, and promotion of the placement of homeless animals directly in the country.

Neutering is the key to less animal suffering!

March 2023

When the team of the SUST Orphan Animal Hospital Hurghada (EG) is not treating emergencies, it also carries out neutering campaigns at other locations whenever possible. From 22.03. to 24.03.2023 the team operated 39 street animals in Marsa Alam in an expert, professional and animal-friendly way. That is again 39 animals more, which no longer produce unwanted offspring, which must lead a hard and dangerous life on the street. At the same time, of course, smaller and bigger wounds were treated, which the unneutered male cats got in the fight with rivals.
Congratulations, dear SUST Hurghada team, on another great effort for less animal suffering in this world!
