Help animals

Emergency aid

How animal lifes are saved

Those animals that are not yet able to benefit from the effects of the sustainable SUST development work and have been born into a world where they are not wanted need immediate help.

SUST offers immediate assistance through:

Emergency aid

SUST Emergency help is done by

  • Animal rescue operations
  • Social work in Switzerland
  • Financing of all livestock rescue services of the Swiss Large Animal Rescue Service
  • Laying hens actions (switching of "out-of-date" laying hens)
  • Organisation, implementation and/or financing of emergency plans and operations
  • Work horse treatments
  • First aid and veterinary interventions

and through the

SUST Orphan Animal Hospitals (SUST)

In many countries countless abandoned animals live on the streets. Many of these dogs and cats have been abandoned or have already been born as strays. Life on the street is dangerous and full of privation. Injured and sick animals usually have no chance of surviving and die mostly painfully and alone on the street. In such cases, there is often not a lack of willingness to help animal-loving people, but a lack of financial means to have street animals treated by a veterinarian.

To help these animals in need, the Susy Utzinger Animal Welfare Foundation set up the SUST Orphan Animal Hospitals.

There are currently one of these institutions in

Ever since its opening, animals that have been injured or ill are admitted daily to the SUST Orphan Animal Hospitals, where they are cared for and treated professionally. If the animals are healthy and strong enough to survive on the streets after their recovery, they will be released back to their territory. Special patients with special needs will be accommodated in animal shelters if possible. Fortunately, it is also possible to find new life places for patients on an ongoing basis.

The Susy Utzinger Animal Welfare Foundation finances the veterinary costs, clinic equipment, medicines, operations, therapies, food and care in the animal orphan hospitals. Often, SUST also finances the construction of the corresponding clinic.

The activities of the Susy Utzinger Foundation for Animal Welfare are financed exclusively by donations and legacies (no public support).

SUST volunteer Sarah Fehr is our expert for Bolivia and the Amazon

The certified animal keeper is regularly on site in the SUST partner project La Senda Verde Animal Sanctuary, Bolivia.

"The pictures and videos that reach me from my second home are heartbreaking - wounded and burnt beyond recognition animals, burnt trees as far as the video camera can reach and at the same time many volunteers and professional helpers who give everything to stop the fires.

My heart burns with and for Bolivia! And after I have overcome the paralyzing impotence from all the suffering, I ask at this point full of hope for your support. "My" animal reserve has launched a fundraising campaign to counteract this catastrophe."

The money raised will go towards a much-needed emergency plan for the Chiquitania region, a unique ecosystem particularly hard hit by the fires. A group of experts - including biologists, ecologists, veterinarians and various animal welfare organisations such as Senda Verde - will meet today (Monday September 2) for the first time to define the necessary measures

Your donations will be used for the following purposes:

1. medical care for injured animals: so far only very few animals have been found, most of them are dead. Many material donations have already been received for the few survivors. They will be treated by local veterinarians and released as soon as possible. Only special cases (so far an ocelot and a Puma young animal) are accommodated in reserves.

2. transport and distribution of water and food so that the wild animals do not starve / die of thirst near the fires.

3. bring the necessary specialists to the affected areas to develop detailed analyses and reforestation solution strategies.

Every amount and every Like / Share is crucial and can make a big difference. If the necessary credit card is missing, you can also donate via the Animalma association account: IBAN CH28 0070 0110 0052 6032 0 / Account number: 80-151-4 / In favour of: Animalma, 8000 Zürich / Note "SOS Bolivia"
