Emergency aid

How animal lifes are saved

Those animals that are not yet able to benefit from the effects of the sustainable SUST development work and have been born into a world where they are not wanted need immediate help.

SUST offers immediate assistance through:

Emergency aid

SUST Emergency help is done by

  • Animal rescue operations
  • Social work in Switzerland
  • Financing of all livestock rescue services of the Swiss Large Animal Rescue Service
  • Laying hens actions (switching of "out-of-date" laying hens)
  • Organisation, implementation and/or financing of emergency plans and operations
  • Work horse treatments
  • First aid and veterinary interventions

and through the

SUST Orphan Animal Hospitals (SUST)

In many countries countless abandoned animals live on the streets. Many of these dogs and cats have been abandoned or have already been born as strays. Life on the street is dangerous and full of privation. Injured and sick animals usually have no chance of surviving and die mostly painfully and alone on the street. In such cases, there is often not a lack of willingness to help animal-loving people, but a lack of financial means to have street animals treated by a veterinarian.

To help these animals in need, the Susy Utzinger Animal Welfare Foundation set up the SUST Orphan Animal Hospitals.

There are currently one of these institutions in

Ever since its opening, animals that have been injured or ill are admitted daily to the SUST Orphan Animal Hospitals, where they are cared for and treated professionally. If the animals are healthy and strong enough to survive on the streets after their recovery, they will be released back to their territory. Special patients with special needs will be accommodated in animal shelters if possible. Fortunately, it is also possible to find new life places for patients on an ongoing basis.

The Susy Utzinger Animal Welfare Foundation finances the veterinary costs, clinic equipment, medicines, operations, therapies, food and care in the animal orphan hospitals. Often, SUST also finances the construction of the corresponding clinic.

The activities of the Susy Utzinger Foundation for Animal Welfare are financed exclusively by donations and legacies (no public support).

SUST Feed Aid: Your help is well being received

The SUST Feed Aid has been highly active since the beginning of the Corona crisis: many feed deliveries have already been made to Swiss and foreign animal shelters, thus contributing to the survival of the homeless animals.

Thanks to your donations, we have also been able to deliver feed to our partner animal shelter Csabai Állatvédők Khe in Bekescsaba in Hungary.

The world has gone off the rails - a state of emergency prevails everywhere. In this turbulent time, in which the lockdown has been imposed in most countries, animal shelters and their homeless inhabitants suffer particularly.

The Corona crisis has not only drastically changed our daily lives, but the daily routine of animal shelters has also been turned upside down. The crisis has hit many shelters around the world hard.
Due to the imposed contact bans, planned activities had to be cancelled and the shelter doors closed for the population. This means that events such as "the open day" cannot take place and reserved animals, which should soon be collected by new owners, have to stay at the shelter indefinitely. As a result of the visit and adoption stop, the number of animals in the shelters is increasing and therefore larger amounts of food are needed. In addition, in many organizations the income from donations is drastically reduced. The foreign animal shelters have to handle several hundred animals a day, which is currently causing serious feed shortages in many places. Swiss animal shelters are also affected by the current state of emergency and are dependent on donations for feed.

This is where the feed aid of the Susy Utzinger Animal Welfare Foundation helps: "The donations received on our feeding aid account are used 1:1 for the purchase and delivery of animal feed" explains animal welfare activist Susy Utzinger. The foundation uses these donations transparently, purposefully and quickly. Preference is given to animal shelters and animal welfare projects that operate sustainably and meet minimum animal welfare standards. The feed is purchased directly on site to avoid long waiting times and to keep delivery and transport costs to a minimum. Feed for Swiss animal shelters is delivered to their destinations from the animal welfare warehouse in Kollbrunn.

THE SUST-FOOD-EMERGENCY AID WORKS THAT EASY

1. quick, easy and unbureaucratic: Here you can donate for animal food. The money goes into a special account and is used 1:1 for the purchase of animal food.

2. professional and safe: The SUST selects animal shelters for its support that meet minimum animal welfare standards. Preference is given to animal shelters and animal welfare projects that work sustainably. Of course, emergencies have priority. But also street dog feeding stations and private animal owners in need are supported.

3. fast, targeted, environmentally friendly: The SUST uses it to buy the required food directly on site. This keeps long waiting times, such as delivery and transport costs to a minimum.

4. donate safely: The feed deliveries are documented on the social media channels of the SUST.
